Where are you from and what Bianchi do you own??

    Good day everybody!

Ive just joined this forum and and have only just purchased my first ever Bianchi so thought I would say a big hello to all the other Bianchi fans out there. Been riding a few years now and really getting into my cycling of late and thought it was about time to upgrade and find a bike with the right size frame for me at long last. Having to move out of my parents house soon so thought i might as well spend some dough on a new bike while i can, and had no problems deciding on what bike brand to buy. Was originally going to buy a Via Nirone Sora bike but then realised i wanted to have my own personal touch added to it. Ended up buying a Via Nirone Alu/Carbon frame in white and celeste green and buying all other parts seperataly. I'm so chuffed with my new bike and always looking for excuses to use it whenever i can. Have also bought some Green Celeste Bianchi clothing to match, though dont think i will performing to the standards that Jan Ullrich did back in 2003!! What bike do you own, and where are you from? Im from the UK down in the the south east corner, a coastal town called Southend-on-Sea 60km east of London. Maybe we should add pics of our bikes or add a link to pics?

    Cheers.. Chris

Hi Chris - welcome aboard the good ship Bianchi! There's some nice roads near you, I've spent time in your area in the past. I'm up near Leeds which means the Pennines are on my doorstep - that's my excuse I give to my mates for the "dinner plate" rear cassette on my black EV2 anyway!
I've already got a photo thread started at http://bianchi.com/community/forums/147/ShowThread.aspx#147 so post away, I'm looking forward to seeing your new arrival!

Ok, will try and take a few photos of the beast and post them on your other thread. Been waiting for a nice sunny evening to take some snap shots of it but all we have had for last few evenings is rain. Your right about some of the roads around this way, quite a varied bit of ridding to be done down here in southend. I tend to try and get down the sea front for a ride in the evenings as theres a good few miles of coastal road to take advantage of. Aswell as that theres plenty of country roads out of the back of Southend to contend with and some nice hill climbs if you know where to look. I would imagine the Pennines is a loverly area to tour around, a little jealous to say the least.

Went down to the Eastwood community centre yesterday to enquire about the Southend Wheelers Cycle Club Membership, sounded quite promising and thinking of joining up. Looking into doing a 10 mile Time Trial that runs every wednesday night about 40mins drive away from where i live, will be a bit of fun and give me a indication of how fit i am. Will be aiming to do it in 30mins, anything under and i will be happy (doubtful though)

    Hi Chaps,

I assume we are all Chaps?

I have replied to some of you on other threads, and to them i haven't then Hi!.

Having recently moved from Peterborough where the highest point is a mole hill, we are now living in Yeovil and therefore amongst some of the most beautiful countryside around and also some pretty bloody big hills.

I am riding an Ultegra 1885 alu hydro carbon, but i had to change the chainset to an FSA carbon compact so i could get a lower gear, if any of you have any tips for training for hills i would be grateful as this is the only thing letting me down at the moment and i am taking part in a stage of the Tour of Wessex in 18 days and am now getting very nervous.

    Thanks guys

Re: Where are you from and what Bianchi do you own??

    Hello Yeovil Roadie!
Good choice of bike - sounds nice. The only way to train for hills is to go out and batter yourself on them! I find that if I purposely start to climb them a little bit slower than I feel I'm able to always makes a big difference. I can respond to attacks and climbing a few BPMs lower means I don't feel like I'm about to die! You'll lose a few seconds but you'll more than make up for it later in the race as you'll stay fresher. Try and stay seated uphill and don't grip the bars so hard that dents appear! If you can relax your upper body and keep your pedalling nice and smooth without tensing your muscles too much you won't become as tired.
As far as your race in 18 days goes just make sure you're rested and properly fuelled before you do it. I used to race in a similar manner to those little dogs you see chasing dustbin lorries and ice cream vans - all noise and fury then exhausted way before the finish!
Just don't do that and good luck!

Re: Where are you from and what Bianchi do you own??

Hi mate, i'm certainly a chap yeh, cant really speak for the others.

I love a bit of hillclimbing and go out of my way to train on them. Like Bianchiboy stated theres no better training than just riding as many as you can find. Theres a few nice climbs very local to me so I make up a circuit in my mind and try and do it four or five times untill im totally knackered. The more you practice the hills the less nervous you will be in the future when having to deal with them, you will actually relish them instead because you know you can manage them and see them as being a bit of a challenge. I also find doing the hills seated is alot better, may not feel natural at first but does actually take a lot less out of you in the long run.

Re: Where are you from and what Bianchi do you own??

Nice one! Will be nice to hear how you got on. I decided to take part in a 10mile Time Trial yesterday evening, it was a Wednesday league event hosted by the Southend Wheelers Bike Club, they told me prior it was ok to come along and check it out without being a member. Had a lovely time as the people were very friendly and the sun was beaming down on us all through the evening. Was very happy with my time taking into account it was the first ever bit of bike competition i have ever taken part in, managed the 10miles in a (what i think is respectable) 28mins and 15secs, also got a nice cramp in my lower leg for my efforts as i sprinted over the finish. Concidering going down next wednesday and giving it another go. Would suggest a 10mile TT to anyone, gets your heart racing to say the least and is a bit of a laugh!

Re: Where are you from and what Bianchi do you own??

Hi I'm Pekka from Finland and I ride Via Nirone Alu/carbon Ultegra. I've done some 2000 km's since last November and I love the bike. (well during winter I had to use my mountain bike in snow of course)

About climbing  hills there are meny factors which affect how to climb them. If you don't live in mountain area forexample in Finland, most hills are possible to climb not seatd and then you need big gears! You read right, when you enter the hill you change bigger gear ant stand. Rpm's are around 60. You will see that short steep hills are climbed fairly easily this way! there are some reports  that lactics are lower at 60 rpm's than 100 rpm and it saves your power too.

I know this is not the thing you read on pages written about climbing, but try it works! Of course many km's long climbs are different and one has to to be seated mostly!

Re: Where are you from and what Bianchi do you own??

    Good evening,

I think I am the exception here in being a "Chapess".
Anyway, I will ride a Dama Bianca when the bike shop have set it up - frame arrived from Italy today. I´ll let you know how it goes, especially up the hills which there are plenty of here in Bavaria.
Oh, and my husband has the 1885 alu-hydro veloce,so we are a celeste family.

As for the hills, practice lots. 18 days is enough to do a few good hill sessions and still have a rest. Sorry I can´t think of any secret formula to make them easy.

Re: Where are you from and what Bianchi do you own??

    Good evening, chaps & chapesses.
I'm from Sweden and ride a newly bought "mystery Bianchi". The receipt says I bought a Via Nirone Carb Ultegra mix, but the frame clearly is an 1885 Hydro Carbon... it even says so. However, the color is that of the Via Nirone. Oh well. It's a great bike and cycling has never been more joyful...
